Do You Think Mike Would Be Proud Of The I WANT YOU BACK CHALLENGE

I THINK MIKE WOULD BE VERY HAPPY WITH THE "I WANT YOU BACK" ACAPELLA CHALLENGE

I can't tell you where I was the first time I heard it. I can tell you the first time I heard it and it changed my life.

I was listening to Dick Clark's radio special ROCK ROLL AND REMEMBER , a special celebration of 30 year's of ROCK N ROLL. The show played and discussed...the importance and status of every number one recording from Bill Hailey and The Comet's ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK to the number one record of that week.

I sat in my parents living room on a Sunday afternoon glued to my radio.

The stories these entertainers shared made me realize...at one point in their lives they were sitting in front of a radio just like me.

Then when ROCK ROLL AND REMEMBER got to the first week of 1970...I heard a piano rift that has made my heart beat a little faster and made me smile every since.

That was the first time I heard I WANT YOU BACK that it meant something and EVERYTHING... to me.

Now Macy's has sponsored an I WANT YOU BACK a cappella challenge and school after school are dropping dope interpretations of the Jackson Five's Classic debut recording.

Some are almost identical as one could get to the original with the human voice. Others are just ubre cool ways to re hear the words for the first time.

Either way...I don't have a favorite besides the original. I do however, enjoy them all for what they mean to the young voices singing their versions.

I am glad the song is being remembered, respected and remains a musical building block.

Like it or not MJ and The J 5 were icons coming right out the gate and their very first single not only stands the test of time...it continues to redefine music for generations that will have never been alive at the same time as MJ.

Not a day goes by that I don't wish Mike was still here...but where ever he is today...I hope he's happy.

Merry Little Holidays Hottest Gifts: )

Ray's Review:

If you listen to any one that loved hip hop in the 80's to late 90's they can tell you at least ten lp's that

"Changed The Game."

So rather than use that cliché I will use this one.

When I Tribe Called Quest came out 25 years ago with their debut lp "people's instinctive travels and the paths of rhythm"....they effectively started playing chess to many other emcee's "checkers."

"Quest" was smooth, really used obscure jazz horns over drums.

Listening to A Tribe Called Quest is like listening to a block party with all nerds.....in fact Tribe is one of the reasons the nerds took over and remain the coolest and hippest people in many social circles.

So with that said.

The good people at http://getondown.com/album.php?id=18029 are releasing
Peoples Instinctive...45 Boxset (8 X 7 Inch Singles.)

8 of the singles from the LP that...(you guessed it)...CHANGED THE GAME (sometimes you can't escape the RIGHT cliché.)

A TRIBE CALLED QUEST PARTNERS WITH GET ON DOWN TO RELEASE A LIMITED-EDITION, 25TH ANNIVERSARY “45s BOX” REISSUE [ON EIGHT 7-INCHES] OF THE GROUP’S 1990 DEBUT, “PEOPLES’ INSTINCTIVE TRAVELS AND THE PATHS OF RHYTHM”

25th Anniversary deluxe “45s Box” was created in collaboration with the group and is a vinyl companion piece to Tribe’s Anniversary celebration.

• 1,000 HAND-NUMBERED VINYL SETS

• 45s ARE HOUSED IN A DELUXE, FABRIC-WRAPPED CARRYING CASE, WITH 360-DEGREE ORIGINAL ALBUM ART

Winter Fest Returns To The Water Front

The
Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) has teamed up with great Philadelphia partners: Independence Blue Cross, Garces Group, Franklin Fountain, and Groundswell Design Group to once again transform Penn’s Landing into a winter wonderland called Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest, open to the public from November 27, 2015 – February 28, 2016. This outdoor ice skating rink on the river is surrounded by a beautifully lit winter forest featuring a majestic holiday tree and a chalet-style Lodge with food and beverages from some of Philly’s finest establishments. A new feature this year is an entire part of the site dedicated to stylized winter warming cottages, Franklin Fountain’s Confectionery Cabin, and fire pits.

SWEETHEART SKATES

Check, check and check. They’ll all be at Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest, and there’s no better time to bring that special person down to the rink than during Sweetheart Skates. These special skate sessions feature romantic lighting, flowers, chocolates, ice skating, and a DJ playing requested love songs. Want to surprise your sweetie with an engagement proposal? “FALL” IN LOVE WITH SAMMY D’S ALL OVER AGAIN

The days have gotten shorter and the temperatures have gotten colder, but things are heating up at Sammy D’s at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City!  Chef Sammy D has whipped up some seasonal dishes that will have diners “falling” in love with his restaurant and his unique spin on classic dishes all over again.
Get warmed up with new appetizers like Butternut Squash Soup garnished with pumpkin seeds, pumpkin oil and crème fraiche, or the Roasted Cauliflower “Steak” dressed with capers, raisins, arugula, roasted grapes, pistachios, and verjus glaze.  The Escarole Salad is a crisp way to savor the season with hazelnuts, pecorino Romano, plump raisins, red onion, lemon and extra virgin olive oil.
New seasonal entrees include Heritage Pork Schnitzel served with warm potato salad, chicory salad, pickled apples, capers and grilled lemon and Roasted Cod accompanied with butternut squash, bacon, whipped potatoes, pomegranate and leek butter.  Enjoy Sammy’s take on classic comfort foods that are sure to warm your spirits and your soul, like Chicken Marsala – sautéed chicken breast, taleggio cheese, potato gnocchi, mushrooms and truffles or Mushroom Pappardelle – forest mushrooms, mushroom broth, truffle butter and parmesan cheese.
Of course, some of Sammy D’s classic dishes are still available, like his American Dumplings, Roasted Prime Rib and Sammy’s Shelltacular.  There’s something for everyone at Sammy D’s!

Give Your Dream and Your Future 1 Hour A Day!

Today I want to begin with an excerpt from a poem!

Time...
The One Thing That You Never
Get Back In Life
The Hours You Spend
Sleeping
Arguing
Making Some One Else Rich
8 hours a day
5 days a week
is TIME
you will never get back

Dear Reader
Give Your Dreams
One Hour A Day
Take an hour's wage
and put it on that trip to your favorite
Beach where they serve the fruity drink with umbrellas in the glass
while you sit by the pool
and wonder what the poor bloggers
do when it's cold in New Jersey

Give Your Dreams
an Hour A Day

I confess.
I have been GUILTY and sometimes still GUILTY!
I see people MARCHING on TV.
Wearing hoodies on instagram.
And I start complaining that giving money and boycotting would be better.
And please trust me...I believe that money and boycott's are the more potent weapons for peace and change.

However.
Never let anyone mock or be little YOUR movement!
Never let anyone make light of YOUR ACTION or YOUR SACRIFICE.

Here are 2 reasons to continue...in what ever movement you believe in whether you are marching, singing, writing, saving, fighting for justice, peace, a better future.

1.There are no magic bullets anyway.
There is no March nor No One Boycott that will undo all the wrong in this world.
So start with a facebook protest and call for justice.
Let that be the beginning of your fight for truth.

There is no one book that will bring you success...so start with being successful with in YOUR CIRCLE of influence.

2. Like the picture says.
ONE HOUR OF DOING ANYTHING....
BEATS 24 HOURS OF DOING NOTHING AT ALL....

Question Of The Day: Are There Real opportunities For Young People IN Atlantic City?

In my late 20's I moved from AC to EAST ORANGE, NJ. My mother had a S*&% fit...but it was the best thing I ever did getting away from AC.

I still looked out for my home town while I was gone. In fact every opportunity I gained, I did my best to share with the young people I left...because I never left them behind.

I left in the 1990's and now it is 2015.

Atlantic City still have one major newspaper, The Press Of Atlantic City. The alternative paper The AC Weekly is also owned by The Press Of AC.

There are NO Black owned radio stations. There are only two stations that play anything close to Black, hip hop or soul music. Neither have any people of color on staff (that I know of.)

To the best of my knowledge there are only two African American on air hosts in The AC area.

However, I know of several intelligent, great minds that ARE making great contributions to the media and also to the world at large. All if not most however, are finding their success outside of Atlantic City!

So here's my question(s)

ARE THERE REAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN ATLANTIC CITY, NJ IN 2015-2016?

IF SO CAN YOU PLEASE IDENTIFY THE FIELDS OPEN AND THAT YOUNG PEOPLE CAN LOOK TO?

IS THERE A WAY TO DEVELOP SOME INDUSTRIES HERE THAT WOULD ATTRACT THE BEST PEOPLE FROM OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY? (BECAUSE I AM TIRED OF ATLANTA TAKING ALL OF OUR GREAT YOUTH, BUT I URGE THEM TO LEAVE AC FOR THEIR OWN GOOD)

IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE PEOPLE THAT LEFT AC? IS THERE ANY THING THAT WOULD MAKE YOU COME BACK TO STAY?

Hug and Artist Today

Every day as artists we sacrifice for you, our family, other artists and future artists.

Yes we do what we do because we can and we should and sometimes...we are haunted until we create in the present world what is running rampant in our minds.

However...here are 5 great reasons to hug an artist of any kind today...

#5 Some of that talent and inspiration may rub off on you.

#4 If your "huggin" has the right magical/spiritual "stuff"...you will inspire the artist.

#3 While buying a book, CD, download, picture is ALWAYS appreciated and needed.... HUGS have been known to help me make it til the next check book opens.

#2 Facebook, Instagram and Twitter still have NOTHING on human contact....

#1 Reason To Hug An Artist Today.....Because YOU Can.
The forecast for Atlantic City today is BRIGHT and BEAUTIFUL...and where ever you are...YOU ARE ALIVE to read this and share in the day with some one.

To put it another way...there are people in hospital beds today that would love to be able to share a hug with some one....(and why not an artist)

God Bless Us All....

Men Discussing The Issue Of Violence Thursday at 6pm at Pleasantville High

Question Of The Day: Do You Think North Jersey Will Have Casino Gambling in 5 Years?

Raymond C Tyler.com and The AC Beat remembers Pinky Kravitz

Currently my signed and numbered Pinky Kravitz bobble head sits on my trophy mantel with my basket ball, public speaking and volley ball trophies (only the first place and champ trophies on display.)

However when I first opened The Little Wellness Arts Center my unique "personal" Pinky was one of the first things I set up for display. I was always happy to explain to out-of-towners WHO...Pinky is.....and why his bobble was on display.

Pinky gave me the bobble head after I appeared as a guest on his TV/radio show Pinky's Corner.
Funny thing is I had guest hosted FORUM 40 for channel 40 a couple of times before that, but of course it was my appearance on Pinky's Corner that most people called and said they "saw me on TV."

I worked at WOND for about 2 years. I told Pinky I was bringing back the WUSS radio show Let's Talk About It....Pinky made it plane he wanted to be the first guest. Pinky was more than a colleague or the "most senior" personality at WOND. Pinky lent me every bit of help he could and told me to ask him if I needed more! He didn't need me to get on to the radio...he knew that if he came on my show and gave me a thumbs up....every one that didn't already know I was an okay guy...would know from Pinky I was an okay guy. The same goes for my appearance on Pinky's Corner. It was all to help boost my success...and I believe he was kind of proud of "the kid."

Next year I will celebrate 10 years as a professional radio producer. There are many times people at the stations I was BUYING time from, treated me like I was "THE HELP" and not an executive producer with writing credits for Vibe, The Source, Atlantic City Weekly and Philadelphia Weekly.
Pinky however, always treated me with the same level of respect that he actually earned from being a fixture in AC for more than 50 years.

While we were columnists at The Atlantic City Weekly, he was the one that talked me into using my name to help organizations like The Covenant House.

When I reflect I remember PINKY as such an example of the right way to be a local celebrity and national media person.

On Saturday October 31st, The City of Atlantic City lost a giant and one of the brightest stars to grace our heaven. His influence will be seen and heard here for a mighty long time. Still...I am mourning and praying for The Kravitz Family. The Kravitz Family have long shared him with the rest of us...let's not forget them at this time.

This Sunday at 8am please tune into The AC Beat on FM 96.1 WTTH as producer/host Raymond Tyler remembers and pays tribute to Pinky Kravitz.
