Open For The Debate The MJ Solo Edition

Off The Wall Vs. Thriller...

This is what I would say respectively about the LP's and their place in music history.

Thriller is still and will always be the most important LP in history.

In fact when I and several DJ's I respect first heard Thriller in 1982...we knew music and business was about to change. The buzz among my crew EARLY was that Thriller could throw the whole system out of wack and make a bigger name of Michael Jackson. As big as we knew Thriller would be..it's bigger and more important than that. Truth is...Thriller is the 8th Wonder of the world. It's The Great Wall...my words ain't flashy enough and the internet ain't big enough....Thriller just is and will be....

SO IF THRILLER IS ALL THAT?
IT MUST BE BETTER THAN OFF THE WALL.....

Well Not Exactly....

While Thriller is the most important album in music history.

I can argue that OFF THE WALL is the most important album in Michael Jackson's History.
The year was 1979...ten years earlier in December 1969 , The Jackson Five set themselves apart from every male group that came before with I Want You Back and 4 straight number one pop hits.

Now by1979 The Jackson 5 had left Motown and as a group The Jacksons were still hot but had not been able to re capture the same level of success.

Enter a Michael Jackson that wanted to prove his early success was not Motown, Berry Gordy or the great song writers....MJ wanted to set himself not only apart from The Jacksons.

MJ wanted an album that would set him apart from himself and his teen aged success of the early 70's.

The LP he released...was OFF THE WALL.

A magical mix  of soul and sizzling NEO-DISCO.....OFF THE WALL granted MJ the success The J-5 had with their first 3. Plus he has worked with Quincy Jones to produce a LP that was recognized as one of the best of the decade.

With out Off The Wall...we don't get to Thriller.

SO bottom line....what's your favorite between the two....

OFF THE WALL OR THRILLER?
