31 years ago Spike Lee changed the game in Black Film.
In fact there was a drought of quality black film.
And then came Spike Lee and SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT!
Still a favorite of mine, because it was great film making about people that were important to me.
As an 18 year old intellectual of that time...there were aspects of myself through out the film in almost every character.
This thanksgiving....The story of Nola Darling, Jamie, Greer and Mars will be re told.
The show will not be as iconic and as important as the original....it can't be.
The doors blown open by the 1986 film have been wide open for more than 3 decades.
If we are lucky we will once more bare witness to great film making. If we're blessed?
Spike will find a way to change what still needs to be changed in Hollywood.
However...I would not blame him if the series opened with the words popping up on the screen
"You're Welcome."
